Table of contents in the sidebar (outline view)#5

Description:
When I create a title in a document I would like it to show up as an index under the document in the sidebar. When I click on the index it should scroll to that part of the document.

Current behaviour:
No way to see headings or click on them in the sidebar.

Expected behaviour:
An index in the sidebar that I can view and click on.

Makes total sense - currently, our docs have tables of contents based on Headings. The TOC does not work as expected within the doc (behaviour has not been consistent, but clicking a TOC link either does nothing or takes the user to the Google Doc - neither of which are expected behavoiur). Having the Section Headings in the sidebar would aid with this.

Yes this is a big issue. Our docs use a naming convention for easier sorting in Google Drive. But each of these has a unique/better title in the heading. that heading should be the title, not the document name. for example, our doc names may have things like [Patient Forms][Business]Title in the the actual doc name, and we obviously dont want all of those bracketed items in there. the brackets are super useful for finding in drive, but they really mess up the TOC and titles in YNAW.

Very nice Idea. Please implement this.

Edit: I’ll experiment with both a left sidebar and righthand side table of contents.

Changed the title from "Document heading title index in the sidebar" to "Table of contents in the sidebar"

KBee Tool has an example of this functionality, they put the DOC header list in the righthand panel. I think this is acceptable, and perhaps desirable ( as opposed to integrated into primary nav pane ). You have the visibility, but it doesn’t make the primary nav pane even more crowded. I think if this were to be integrtated into the Nav Pane (left), I would want a different size font to differentiate levels.

The outline function is a dealbreaker for us in terms of evaluating wiki solutions. Any sense of when this might be implimented?
